Contract of Defiance, Spectras Arise Trilogy I
In a few hundred years, the Algol system becomes humanity’s new home. The question is: is it a better one? When a crew of arms smugglers botches their latest job, Corps-deserter and crewmember, Aly Erikson, is separated from her brother, the only person she can trust, and left behind to fight for her life. In the aftermath, as she tries to piece together what happened, a crew of roughneck settlers pressgang her into a dangerous mission in the heart of Corps territory. Time is running out to get back everything she’s lost: her crew, her brother, her options. But no one is taking her gun.

Hi Tammy: I read the first chapter and really enjoyed it so I downloaded the book from Amazon. That was my first time having to remove DRM – it took me some scouring around and fiddling but it’s done and now I have an epub of your book for my Kobo.
I like the style you’re writing this in or general writing style I guess I could say. It flows very well and the descriptions are very real to me. You describe action really well, I assume by some personal experience perhaps… I also had this affinity with Serenity and the Firefly series as I read, not that yours is derivative, just feel-wise.
I also wanted to mention that you had a flow similar to Lee Child’s Reacher novels. I’ve read the first two in that series. I immediately decided to read his work to get a feel of how he makes the narrative flow… he has a distinct style. He also has that ability to describe things technically, like fight scenes without it being too literary which I like, and I think you’ve achieved as well.
Anyway, looking forward to reading Contract of Defiance. Right now I’ve been reading a novel that I want to finish, Salvage The Bones by Jesmyn Ward, but for some reason it’s not grabbing me that much. It’s interesting but I want a break to read some action. Cheerio cocoa-puff.
Hi Bree,
Thanks so much for your support and such wonderful compliments! I do enjoy writing action, and it’s great to hear that it is fun to read. I will have to pick up some of Lee Childs’ work as I have not read anything by him. Something tells me I’ll like it. I am an AVID Serenity and Firefly fan, so your comment is especially poignant. Thank you! I hope you enjoy the rest of the book. I am really looking forward to your release. I loved Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, and any story coming from the perspective of people with Aspbergers is guaranteed to be fascinating. Best!
